Staphylococcus is a major cause of antibiotic resistance and serious, even fatal, blood infections such as sepsis and a major public health problem. Aprotein sensor on the surface of the pathogen called HssS allows its survival to the high toxicity of a molecule present ni the blood: heme; the red pigment associated with hemoglobin. The project AntibioHeme aims to identify molecules that inhibit this mechanism in order to develop a new class of antibiotics specifically targeting staphylococci in the blood.
